With the Patriots sitting a 7-5 after the first 13 weeks, The Patriots needed to come out with at least 3 wins in 4 games to secure a spot in the playoffs. With as many as 6 teams tied in the AFC at 7-5, any slight slip up would have cost the Pats a playoff bid. For the most part during weeks 9-13, the patriots took care of business going 3-1. They also had their much needed bye week to help them recharge their batteries. Week 9 the Pats took care of a very good team in the Ravens by beating them 35-9. This was their first of 4 games against playoff or close to playoff bound teams. The Patriots continued their trend of .500 football in weeks 5-8 as they did in weeks 1-4. They came away with 2 very impressive wins against the Browns (week 8) and the Redskins (week 5), but dropped their 2nd striaght game to division rival New York Jets, and lost to a winless New York Giants team. The Patriots sit at a surprising 2-2 record after their first 4 games of the season. Surprising because the teams that they lost to are not exactly considered "Power houses". The defending champs currently sit tied for 2nd in the division, but still have a ton of time to eventually pull away from the rest of the AFC East.
