One of the most important rules in SFL is to meet all the roster requirements. In order to do this, every member must know the following facts.
Injured players DO NOT count towards meeting the minimum # of players required to have in a certain position.
Must remove injured players from depth chart rotation.
Why must we meet the requirements? The real reason SFL does this is to help avoid game disconnections. It is widely known that rosters are the main cause for games disconnecting, game freezing; etc.
1. Respect others and treat them how you want to be treated. SFL Front Office doesn’t expect everyone to like each other, but we do expect you all to talk to each other cordially when setting up games.
We are all adults, so act like it. We do not mind some friendly trash talking , but do not attack anyone personally about their life, work, or even gameplay.
2. Here is some of the things to keep away from:
Do not harass your opponent in public or private chat DURING a game.
If you think your opponent broke a rule, or is breaking a rule. Pause the game talk to them respectfully and make them aware.
If opponent continues the issue, just notify a commissioner AFTER the game and ask them to watch the stream.
DO NOT BLAST YOUR OPPONENT on the main chat.
3. Discord is not for complaints:
Take all complaints to an admin.
If you think your opponent broke a rule, or is breaking a rule. Pause the game talk to them respectfully and make them aware.
Keep Complaint interactions on PMs. Do not take it to the league main chat.
Just as our nation(USA) the league is made up of players from a variety of ethnic groups. Give them all their due respect.
Refrain from such topics, and if you do engage please keep an open mind and respect others.
Again, everyone is different and are entitled to their opinion.
SFL will not censor what’s said in the chat, but above all do not forget to always RESPECT your fellow SFL players.
Zero tolerance will be shown on anyone who fails to show RESPECT. Will be removed from league chat for 3 days and subject to dismissal from the league.
Transaction/Trade Rules/Free Agency
Before a trade can be processed on madden. The following must be completed.
1. All trades must be posted on the forums under Trade Wire.
2. They must be accepted by both parties.
3. Must be approved by 4 of the 7 trade committee members. (trades involving admins require 3 as they cannot vote on the trade)
4. Please note, the commissioner’s vote does not mean a trade has passed. 3 Other members must vote.
5. Any trade involving a future 1st/2nd rd pick must have 5 yes votes.
A Trade is declined if the following happens:
1. Receives 2 no votes. No one person will hold the power to veto any trade.
Players landed via trades must spend a season on your roster before becoming eligible to trade.
Players won in FA Bidding must be on your roster for a full season before becoming eligible to trade.
Every team is allowed to sign 1 Free Agent per week, AFTER their game has been played.
Max Player Re-signing deals are 5 years. Unrestricted Free Agent deals....Max - 4 years.
A few, young superstar players will not sign for 5 years. These players can be signed for 6 or 7 year deals IF they meet this criteria: 26 years old or younger AND are 88 overall or above.
1. Use of playmaker is not allowed.
1a. Play a realistic ‘simulations’ style of football game.
(a) Mix up your plays!
*Mixing up plays isn’t just about calling a variety of plays, from run to passing.
It is also about achieving some balance.
This also means you can’t live on shotgun/pistol formations.
Guys need to have more than 15 passing attempts per game. Same goes for running.
*Make an attempt to get several players involved in the passing game.
Your can’t have one guy with 60 catches and then the next guy have 20.
In addition to that, a TE can surely lead your team in receptions, just make sure #2 receiver isn’t a HB.
(b) Hurry Up Offense aka Quick Snap!
*Indeed, this is a hot topic of discussion.
There’s hurry up in the NFL, its a fact and it is done constantly.
However, madden is a game after all.
In the NFL players are real entities and can adjust on the fly. In madden is quite a different story.
*Snapping the second you get to the line of scrimmage will only be permitted in certain situations.
It must meet one of the following conditions.
*(1) In the Redzone.
*(2) Last 2 minutes of each half.
*(3) 4th Qrt. while down by more than 1 score.
*Last but not least.
If you (a) Motion, (b) flip a play after arriving at the line of scrimmage you must wait a minimum of 2 seconds to snap the ball after the players are set.
This also applies to no Huddle.
(c)Play action on 3rd down:
Play action is no longer allowed on 3rd and 10 or greater.
Let us be realistic everyone knows your passing so don’t come out and do a Play action just because the AI DBS react differently.
You cannot even call a PA play and hot route the RB to negate the playction and leave him into block.
We have custom playbooks with 500 plays use one of your plays that are not a Play action.
There is no limit on PA on 1st and 2nd down, but on 3rd down you have to have gained at least one yard to do a PA.
This Also applies on 4th and greater than 10 if going for it in a situation that lets you go for it.
(d) RUN GAME
a) Mix up your run game. Runs from Shotgun/Pistol formations can amount to only 50% of your total running attempts
b) “New Rule”: HB sub at FB is banned.
IE: If you have 20 attempts. Only 10 of those can be from shotgun/pistol combined.
**Options count as runs**
(e) RUNNING WITH THE QB/RUNNING THE OPTION
a) You’re not allowed to drop back past 10 yards.
b) **NEW** QB cannot go full sprint the second he is handed off the ball.
(f) NO HUDDLE
No huddle should NOT be allowed after a dead ball.
A dead ball is where the clock stops as a result of the play, so after running out of bounds or an incomplete pass there is no need to run a hurry up.
If the clock is running, no huddle is allowed anytime, its part of football.
1. Play a realistic ‘simulations’ style of football game.
(a) Mix up your plays!
*Mixing up plays means exactly that in this case.
You cannot play the same coverage all game.
However, it is understandable to call your “prevent” defense often to close the halfs.
*You cannot abuse the same play throughout a game.
(b) Rushing The Passer
Must rush the QB with at least 3 defensive players.
It doesn’t matter how this is accomplished as long as at least 3 defensive players are going after the QB at all times.
*Only one exception to this will be when defending against a hailmary pass or a 3rd and 20 situation.
Sorry Nickel Velcro fans.
You can’t use it in the redzone anymore.
PS. A player on Spy or Contain does not count as rushing the QB.
DEFENSE – General – NEW
– If the player you’re usering on defense is designed to blitz and you intend to user him into coverage. You must hot route the player into a zone, or man or spy.
MOVEMENT ON DEFENSE BEFORE THE SNAP
NFL teams move and adjust often on defense prior to the snap.
Movement should be allowed in leagues but with the following guidelines:
(a) No defensive linemen should be manually moved prior to the snap.
(b) Madden is favored heavily towards the offense.
You are allowed to manually re-position one LB or DB prior to the snap. Remember if you move him, you must stick on that player till after the ball is snapped.
(c) If the Defense is on “SHOW BLITZ”, the other safety cannot be manually be moved towards the line of scrimmage prior to the snap.
(d) Do not bring those safeties past LB level and please do not attempt to create glitches.
MANUAL MOVEMENT OF DEFENSIVE LINEMAN AFTER SNAP
It is no longer allowed to manually control a defensive lineman that is dropping back into coverage.
Yes you can switch to him if the play goes his way, but it will not be allowed for guys to control the defensive lineman from the get go.
– +1 CB rule you can only have 1 more CB then WRs on the field. Formation packages excluded.
3rd and 8 +
End of game
What does the rule mean?
If the offense comes out w/2 WR you cannot call Quarters, Dime formations as defense.
the exception to this would be on 3rd and 8 + yards or situations at the end of the half
and end of the game where you are playing prevent D.
You can attempt an onside kick anytime in the game, Mike Martz did it in the NFL. You
must allow the opposing team to call an audible or TimeOut. Please don’t abuse it.
Fake Punts and Fake FG
You’re allowed one fake punt or field goal per game.
But you must be past on your own 45 or passed it in order to attempt it.
4th Down Rules
Offensive 4th Down Rules :
1st – 3rd Quarter
(a) Must be at or past the 50 yard line.
(b) Be fair and realistic. Must be at least 4th and 5 to attempt it.
(c) If you’re up 14 or more, it must be at least 4th and 1 to attempt it.
(d) If you’re down 14 or more, you can attempt any 4th down past or at your 40 yard line.
****** When losing you can go for it in any situation, it’s catch up time and the clock is against you.
This is only for the losing team. Winning team the above rule still applies
HB= HB, WR
FB=FB, TE (If no FB, a TE must be put in on the depth chart. a TE cannot be position changed to a FB)
TE=TE, (can be used as a FB in depth AS a TE...no position change to a FB).
DE=DE, DT, OLB
* A CB can be position changed to Safety if he is 90 speed or lower .
WR cannot be moved to HB.
A player must be 280 lbs. or more to move to the Defensive Tackle position.
** WR at TE **
No existing Wide Receivers can be moved to TE. However, Madden-Generated Wide Receivers that are drafted can be moved IF THEY MEET THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS:
* Weighing more than 250lbs
* Speed rating is 85 or less.
No safety over 90 spd or under 215lbs can be used here. I will allow exceptions you can PM me and the admins will vote on the player.
No player under 280 lbs or 90 str can be used here unless they play it in real life.
Any package subs will be allowed.
You CANNOT manually sub in players at their unnatural positions, the only way this is allowed is if the FORMATION sub packages allow this.
For example, I dont want to see Randy Moss MANUALLY subbed at TE unless the Package allows for it..
Clock Management/Running the Playclock:
8 minute Quarters should give anyone more than enough time to mount a comeback.
However, the only time you will be allowed to run the clock down will be in the last 3 minutes of each half.
Everyone has emergencies, they shouldn’t be on a constant basis but you’re allowed to pause the game once during the game for no more than 5 minutes.
If you’re caught upon a situation that is out of your control, please inform your opponent in order to reach an agreement.
Otherwise you must grant them the win if you’re unable to resume the game in a timely manner.
\Loss of connection during a game:
This is a really complicated issue. It will take a lot of patience and agreement between the two parties in order to get the game completed.
It is strongly reccomended that all players having issues with disconnections attempt to “DIRECT CONNECT” to play their league game.
To “Direct Connect” to xbox live you basically hook up your xbox360 directly to your modem. There’s no secret that certain players just have issues connecting to other players, the settings on your router is usually the #1 cause for the issue. The easiest way to solve that issue and to avoid it altogether would be to DIRECT Connect.
In any case there has to be a set of guidelines to follow in case of a disconnection.
***Please note that we must be fair and honor all scores during a game***
***Remember that the #1 goal is to get the game completed instead of having it simmed due to all the injuries which may happen***
1st thru 3rd Quarter:
—–Remember we will be honoring all scores in case of a disconnection. Meaning that you will have to at least honor the score difference between you and your opponent if the game is disconnected.
—–Example: It’s the 2nd Quarter: 3 Mins left: You’re down 21-14 and the game disconnects. At this point since its your 1st attempt you’re still required to attempt to replay a full game. However, you must honor the 7 Point difference to your opponent and grant them a TD lead on the attempt to replay the game.
If the difference was a 2 TD, 3 TD lead for your opponent, then it must be granted! No exceptions!
This will help us avoid accusations of a member disconnecting from the game on purpose.
(A) The above rule will be applied all the way up to 3:00 mins left in the 3rd Quarter. Meaning that you will be required to restart the game if a disconnection happens, honoring the scores just like the above example.
(B) Once 2:59 mins left in the 3rd Quarter arrives the following instructions must be followed.
——-1. If the score difference is 17 pts or more. The win will be awarded to the team in the lead. The team awarded the win can play the cpu or arrange a replay with the opponent where he is still awarded the win.
—We are still honoring all scores in this case even though it’ll be a little different.
(A) Rule (B) from the 3rd quarter will still be applied in cases of 17 pt differences.
(B) In a close game you’ve got several options that you can take.
——1. You can choose to restart the game using the score honoring system.
——2. You can replay 1 quarter and add up the scores. You can continue playing this game and make sure the right person wins the game in the end or you can allow the person to play cpu.
—————–Note: Winning player should not run up the score on the cpu.
——3. Since the game was close just replay a brand new game.
—These are cases where it appears impossible to complete a game. No matter what you’ve attempted, the game just disconnects.
(A) Please keep track and add up the scores of 4 quarters and the winning team gets to finish up vs the cpu.
Again without running up the score on the cpu.
**It is important to have users complete games in order to avoid silly simmed injuries, and have the correct team get the win***
Disconnecting During Gameplay:
Purposely disconnecting during a matchup will not be tolerated.
Anyone found to have disconnected out of poor sportsmanship is subject to immediate dismissal from the league.
It is understandable if your connection is lost (it happens to all of us on occasion),
but disconnecting because you are losing is an act of poor sportsmanship and will not be tolerated.
All disconnections will be investigated by the league.
Since The SFL only recruits and retains top-quality players,
it is to be assumed that some sportsmanlike judgment calls will need to
be made regarding disconnection problems that take place very late in a game.
In other words, if a team is losing by 10 points with under two minutes to go
and is on defense when the game cuts out, it may be agreed upon that in this particular
situation, the game should legitimately be called “final” and therefore not have to replay the full quarter.
If you register to join this league, you are indicating that you have read the above
and agree to comply with all the rules, guidelines, and values this league holds.
If this is true, and you are ready to face some of the stiffest competition available, then contact the leagues administrators.
SFL has been a successful league for a reason. If you don’t follow the rules you will find yourself out of the league.
